Thomas James Garbett, 82, of 1435 Capital Ave. died of emphysema Tuesday at Iowa Lutheran Hospital. Services will be at 11 a.m. Friday at Hamilton's Funeral Home. Burial will be in Highland Memory Gardens Cemetery.

Mr. Garbett was born in Melcher and had lived in Des Moines since 1934. He was a retired manager with Blue Cross and Blue Shield and an Army veteran of World War II.

Nieces and nephews survive.

Friends may call from 5 to 7 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Elsie Maye Garbett, 87, of 1435 Capital Ave. died of a heart ailment Thursday at Heather Manor. Services will be at 1 p.m. Monday at Hamilton's Funeral Home, with burial at Highland Memory Gardens Cemetery.

Mrs. Garbett was born in Hiteman and had lived in the Des Moines area many years. She had been a clerk with the state of Iowa and also worked for Katz Drug. She was a member of Central Bible Church and Melcher/Pleasantville Order of the Eastern Star.

Her husband, Thomas, survives.

Friends may call from noon to 7 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home, where the family will be present from 4 to 7 p.m.
