Birth: Aug. 27, 1850
Death: Nov. 8, 1917
Mrs. Mary Frew, widow of Chester Frew, died at 6 o'clock Thursday morning at her residence, 402 South Main street. Mrs. Frew was a charter member of the First Presbyterian church and was well known among the old residents of the city. She was also prominent in the W.C.T.U. and had a great many friends. She was sixty-seven years old last September.
Mrs. Frew had been ill since last Saturday. Up to that time she had seemed to be in her usual health. About 9 o'clock Saturday morning as she was dressing to go up town to do some shopping she was stricken with apoplexy. She called to her daughter, Mrs. Will Frew, who was in an adjoining room and then fell unconscious to the floor. She never wholly regained consciousness.
Mrs. Frew's maiden name was Mary E. Morris. She was born at Elwin Sept 27, 1850 and practically all her life had been spent in Macon county. She and Chester Frew were married Nov 19, 18972. Mr. Frew's death occurred Nov 19, 1911. For nearly forty years Mrs. Frew lived at the corner of South Main and East Macon streets.
Mrs. Frew is survived by two children, Will C. Frew of Decatur and Mrs. J.C. Alley of Oakdale, Tenn. Mrs. Alley is now in the city. She had been here for two months to visit her mother and had returned home just a week before Mrs. Frew was stricken. On receipt of the message announcing Mrs. Frew's illness, Mrs. Alley returned to Decatur and was with her mother when death came.
Mrs. Frew also leaves three brothers and three sisters, Thomas Morris, George Morris and Elmer Morris of Elwin, Mrs Leonard Light, Mrs. Albert Barkman and Mrs Margaret Jameson all of Decatur and one grand daughter, Miss Zenda Frew of Decatur. Arrangements for the funeral have not been completed.
